Participant Waiver and Release

Acknowlegment

By registering for, attending, or participating in a Volusia Writers event, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to this Participant Waiver and Release.

Voluntary Participation

Participation in Volusia Writers programs is voluntary. You understand that Volusia Writers offers literary arts classes, workshops, discussions, writing exercises, critique sessions, readings, social gatherings, and related activities in private and community settings.

Assumption of Ordinary Risks

You understand that attending any in-person program involves ordinary risks. These may include, but are not limited to, walking on sidewalks, steps, walkways, ramps, patios, parking areas, floors, rugs, and other surfaces; entering or leaving buildings; using chairs, tables, restrooms, doors, and common areas; being near other participants; carrying personal belongings; participating in group discussion or writing activities; and moving through historic, residential, museum, or community spaces.

You accept the ordinary risks associated with attending and participating in Volusia Writers programs.

Historic Home Setting

Some Volusia Writers classes and workshops are held in a historic, century-old home. The home is welcoming and comfortable, but it was not built as a public classroom or modern event facility.

Participants are responsible for reviewing the accessibility information provided by Volusia Writers and contacting us in advance with mobility, hearing, visual, allergy, health, or other access concerns. Volusia Writers will make reasonable efforts to provide practical accommodations when possible. Some accommodations require advance notice.

Personal Responsibility

You agree to take reasonable care for your own safety, health, comfort, and belongings while attending Volusia Writers programs. You agree to follow stated instructions, use reasonable caution, and notify Volusia Writers promptly if you see a condition that may create a safety concern.

You are responsible for your personal property, including laptops, phones, notebooks, bags, purses, coats, books, manuscripts, and other items you bring to an event.

Release and Hold Harmless

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to release, waive, discharge, and hold harmless Corrine Kenner, DBA Volusia Writers, along with any assistants, volunteers, family members, contractors, hosts, venues, or representatives connected with a Volusia Writers program, from claims, demands, damages, losses, expenses, or causes of action arising from ordinary risks, ordinary negligence, or conditions connected with your attendance or participation in a Volusia Writers program.

This release includes, but is not limited to, claims related to slips, trips, falls, steps, walkways, ramps, seating, parking, personal property, allergies, illness, interaction with other participants, or ordinary conditions of private or public venues.

This waiver does not apply where prohibited by law and does not waive rights that cannot legally be waived.

Youth Programs

For programs involving minors, a parent or legal guardian must register the minor participant and accept this Participant Waiver and Release on the minor’s behalf. Unless otherwise stated in writing, minors must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, grandparent, or trusted adult during youth-and-family programs.

Accessibility and Accommodations

Volusia Writers welcomes participants of all abilities. Participants with mobility, hearing, visual, allergy, health, or other access needs should contact Volusia Writers before registering or attending so we can discuss practical accommodations.

Some accommodations may require advance notice. If a Volusia Writers location does not meet a participant’s access needs, we may discuss alternate arrangements when practical.

Service Animals and Pet Notice

Service animals are welcome at Volusia Writers programs in accordance with applicable law.

Some workshops are held in a private home where a small dog lives. If you are allergic to dogs, please contact us before attending. The dog may occasionally be present in or near the meeting space.

Photography and Publicity

Volusia Writers may occasionally take photographs or short video clips at public events for documentation, publicity, grant reporting, website use, or social media. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know before or at the beginning of the event.

No Guarantee of Results

Volusia Writers classes and workshops are designed to provide instruction, encouragement, resources, and community. Participation does not guarantee publication, representation, income, awards, reviews, sales, or any particular writing outcome.

Agreement

By registering for, paying for, attending, or participating in a Volusia Writers class, workshop, meeting, program, gathering, or event, you confirm that you have read this Participant Waiver and Release, understand it, and agree to its terms.
