Come As You Are
We strive to make our programs accessible. If you have any questions or concerns, please email volusiawriters@gmail.com or text Corrine at 386-414-3794.
Intended Audience
Volusia Writers programs are designed for adults who want to explore creative writing as a hobby, personal practice, or possible vocation. Some programs may also be open to young writers ages 12 and up when they register and attend with a parent, grandparent, guardian, or other trusted adult.
Museum of Art-DeLand Programs
Our monthly creative writing experience, The Art of Writing, is held at the Museum of Art-DeLand. The museum is fully accessible.
Volusia Writers Literary Headquarters
Our small-group workshops, classes, and special events are held in a historic, century-old home near downtown DeLand. It wasn’t built with accessibility in mind, but we’re happy to offer reasonable accommodations based on your needs.

Mobility Access
- Our meeting space is a large front room just inside the front door.
- There is a 30-foot paved walkway from the street to the front door.
- We reserve two parking spots close to the walkway for anyone who needs easier access. Just look for the reserved parking signs.
- There are three steps at the front entrance.
- If steps are an issue or you need wheelchair access, we will direct you to a private parking space near the back door so you can enter through our patio.
- We can also set up a portable wheelchair ramp at our back door.
- Please plan to arrive early so we can make sure you’re comfortable before the workshop begins.
Visual Aids
- If you need large-print or digital versions of our handouts, let us know in advance and we’ll create them for you.
Hearing Access
- We provide written materials for our sessions.
- Upon request, we may be able to offer ASL interpretation.
Service Animals
- Service animals are welcome in accordance with applicable law.
Pet/Allergy Notice
Our dog Dottie lives in the house, and she may wander into our meetings. She is part rat terrier and part chihuahua. We vacuum floors and upholstery thoroughly before each event, but dog fur and dander are inevitably present in the house. If you have a severe dog allergy, this location may not be a good fit for you.
Nondiscrimination Policy
Volusia Writers does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, religion, disability, age, marital status, or any other status protected by applicable law in admission or access to, participation in, or employment in its programs, activities, workshops, classes, events, or services.
Participants are expected to dress and behave appropriately for a community writing program. Volusia Writers may refuse admission or ask individual participants to leave if their attire or conduct is disruptive, unsafe, or inconsistent with the educational purpose of our program.
